Wi-Fi Alliance Introduces New Names for Wireless Standards

The Wi-Fi Alliance, which is responsible for the development of wireless technologies, has introduced a new naming system for Wi-Fi standards.

The changed designation scheme should become more convenient and understandable for ordinary users. The 802.11n standard is called Wi-Fi 4, 802.11ac is Wi-Fi 5, and the not yet approved 802.11ax is Wi-Fi 6.

Certification of network equipment under the new system will begin next year.
