Vulnerability in Word allows a computer to be compromised using a video in a document

A new serious vulnerability was discovered in the popular text editor Microsoft Word. Cybersecurity experts Cymulate have found that you can use the video-in-document feature to infect computers with malware.

The new PC hacking method is pretty simple. An attacker only needs to add any video to the file and then replace the link to it with a link to a virus. After opening the document, the system downloads malicious code without warning the user.

Until the release of a software update that fixes the flaw, Cymulate recommends not opening text files with videos from questionable sources in Word.
