Fujitsu has announced the market launch of an updated model of the Lifebook U938 ultramobile computer based on the Kaby Lake-R microarchitecture. The basic version of the laptop is equipped with the now traditional fingerprint scanner, but the developers have gone further. The 'highlight' of the new flagship gadget will be the vascular palm pattern identification system.

This know-how is made possible by the close cooperation of Fujitsu engineers with specialists Microsoft. Fujitsu offered the already proven PalmSecure biometric system, and programmers Microsoft included support for palm authentication in the already familiar user identification application Windows Hello.

The weight of the novelty is only 920 g, and the thickness of the case is 15.5 mm. The 4G LTE module is optional. Unlike the basic model, which is equipped only with a fingerprint scanner, the authorization system of the updated version is complemented by a PalmSecure OEM palm blood vessel scanner. The device has a 13.3-inch display with a resolution Full HD.

The ultra-lightweight magnesium alloy black or red casing houses full-size USB 3.0 Type C and A connectors, HDMI, smart card and memory card readers, microphone and stereo combo outputs, and other interfaces. The UMPC has a powerful rechargeable battery that holds a charge for up to eleven hours of continuous use.

The operating system Microsoft Windows 10 Pro is preinstalled on the laptop with software-implemented support for biometric authorization based on the pattern of veins and capillaries of the user's palm. Data from biometric scanners are transmitted in encrypted form using a TPM 2.0 crypto processor.

Fujitsu has not yet disclosed information about the cost of the Lifebook U938 and the timing of the start of sales of the ultramobile laptop. We only know that the laptop is already available for pre-order in Europe, the Middle East, as well as in India and China. It is not yet known whether the new technology is planned to be used in other gadgets.
