Each PC user performs simple steps when you need to copy information from one place and paste to another. But not everyone knows that at the moment of such a procedure, the copied data is placed on the clipboard.
What is a clipboard and why is it needed
The clipboard is an intermediate data store that software provides. Moreover, the storage supports text and files of various formats. You can copy the necessary material to Windows by all familiar keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + C, and for pasting, use the Ctrl + V combination, while only the last copy is pasted. It is sometimes useful to know the entire immediate history of a buffer. For this, depending on the version Windows, there are special functions and programs.
Windows 10
In the latest version of the system, this function has been significantly improved. You don't need to install any third-party software to view history. To find it out, you need to press the Win key combination (the button to the right of Ctrl) + V. In the window that appears, you can view the last contents of the buffer, delete some records, or clear it entirely.
Windows 7
Unlike the ten, the seventh version Windows does not have a standard function in the system, however, there is another way to manage the clipboard history – additional programs. As a rule, they do not load the system at all, but they improve the convenience of interacting with it.
There is an official software called clipbrd.exe. It was included in previous versions of the operating system, however, the 7 did not receive it for unknown reasons. This file can be found on other computers running Windows XP or Vista in the \ WINDOWS \ system32 \ directory and copied to the current system, or downloaded from the Internet. Unfortunately, there is no official download page. If an 'Entry Point Not Found' error occurs, you must run the program with the compatibility parameter Windows XP.
If you have no desire to deal with system files, solutions from third-party developers will come to the rescue. The list of such programs is huge, and here are the best ones:
- Clipdiary is a lightweight program with a nice and beautiful interface;
- Copy Contents – simple work with the clipboard through the context menu;
- PhraseExpress is perhaps the most powerful solution for simplifying text and clipboard work.
Windows XP
In the old and beloved XP, everything is much simpler than in the seven. There is no built-in function here, as in Windows 10, but there is the same standard clipbrd.exe program, which is already in the system, starts and runs stably. When accessing it, the user will be able to see the contents of the clipboard.
Viewing history is not available, so on XP, as well as on Windows 7, it is recommended to use third-party programs. Before installing, you need to study the system requirements of this or that software to make sure that it will work correctly in the future.
