Half a billion posts from Facebook were made public

Cybersecurity experts at UpGuard have discovered yet another major user data leak from Facebook. Information collected by developers of applications for the social network has become freely available.

As reported on the UpGuard website, the Mexican firm Cultura Colectiva has placed in the cloud storage Amazon without any protection a 146-gigabyte database containing 540 million records from Facebook with all comments, likes and account names. Another company – the American At the Pool – stored the names, email addresses and lists of friends of 22 thousand users of the social network in the same way.

All this data was in the public domain for at least several months before Facebook reacted to the leak and demanded that Amazon eliminate it.
