Activision banned fan mod for game released 18 years ago

News

The shooter Soldier of Fortune appeared in 2000 and was recently re-released on the digital store GOG.com.

Two days after the re-release of the game, Activision demanded that the creators of SoFplus close access to this modification, which was first released more than 14 years ago.

What exactly Activision did not like about this mod is not specified. It should be noted that SoFplus, among other things, fixes the network part of the game. Perhaps this is where the publisher saw a copyright infringement, since other changes – new graphics and sound settings, improved compatibility with more modern video cards, etc. – are completely harmless.

Soldier of Fortune in GOG.com for the Russian region is 679 rubles.
