55% of the world's inhabitants already have access to the Internet


In June-September 2018, 4.2 billion people used the Internet worldwide – 55% of the world's population. These figures are reported in a joint study by We Are Social and Hootsuite.

The majority of users – 51.6% – go online from smartphones, 44.6% use desktops and laptops, 4.2% use tablets, and 0.1% use other types of devices. Compared to 2017, the number of PC owners has grown by 2%, while the mobile audience has decreased by 1%. At the same time, the total number of Internet users increased by 7% over the year.

In Russia, according to Mediascope, 73% of the population over 12 has access to the network.
