New foldable models are emerging in the smartphone market, some with flexible screens. They are compact in size, and when unfolded offer users more screen space, so there is a possibility that tablets will supersede them in the near future.
Samsung Galaxy Fold
The world's first smartphone with a flexible screen costs almost 180 thousand rubles in Russia. Despite the fact that many of the first copies turned out to be defective, and the flexible screen refused to work after a few days, those who wanted to buy it did not diminish. In addition, at the end of 2019, modified versions, devoid of this drawback, went on sale.
Galaxy Fold has two screens, one of which is flexible with a diagonal of 7.3 inches, and the other is the usual Super AMOLED measuring 4.6 inches. Thanks to the latest smartphone, you can use it when folded. Since the main screen has an unusual 4.2: 3 aspect ratio, it will take some getting used to. It is worth saying that all applications of the game adapt to it on their own.
Naturally, the gadget has a flagship filling: a powerful and efficient Snapdragon 855, 12 GB of RAM and 512 main memory. This should be enough to solve any problems in the next 2-3 years. The disadvantages include the thickness of the device – 17 mm when folded.
Huawei Mate X
The Mate X is the main competitor to the Galaxy Fold. Unlike Samsung, Huawei folds screen outward. Therefore, it has only one display, the diagonal of which when unfolded is 8 inches.
Representatives Huawei state that they have been working on the new product for 3 years, so there should be no problems with the device. They want to believe them, because the device turned out to be thin (only 11 mm when folded), with small frames and without any cutouts.
As for the filling, the 'heart' of the Mate X is the HiSilicon Kirin 980 processor developed by the company Huawei. The gadget has only one memory configuration: 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of main memory. The performance of the Galaxy Fold Mate X certainly falls short, but this only applies to various tests. In fact, he copes with any assigned tasks.
The main drawback Huawei of the Mate X is the price – it costs about 200 thousand rubles.
LG G8X ThinQ
In fact, the LG G8X ThinQ is a familiar smartphone to which another screen has been added. The company decided to abandon expensive flexible screens and simply added another display to its flagship. It turned out several times cheaper. In this case, the user still gets a device with a large display and flagship specifications: Snapdragon 855, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of ROM.
LG G8X ThinQ is equipped with as many as 3 displays: the main OLED – display with a diagonal of 6.4 inches and two additional ones located on a special case LG Dual Screen. This case can be easily attached to the smartphone, after which the device becomes foldable. The two main screens are almost identical, but the third, located on the back of the case, is small, only 2.1 inches. It is designed to display various notifications and the most necessary information about closed and open applications.
Naturally, a full-fledged tablet LG G8X ThinQ can hardly be called, since there is a decent gap between the screens.
Motorola RAZR V4
The line of phones Motorola RAZR was once one of the most stylish and popular, so its revival was only a matter of time. The RAZR V4 began selling from the beginning of 2020 in a limited number of countries and has not yet reached Russia. On the American market, they ask about $ 1,500 for it.
Externally, the novelty resembles the legendary RAZR V3, but the main feature of the smartphone is flexible OLED – 6.3-inch display with a small cutout at the top, which we will see when we open the phone. Like all clamshells of the past, there is also a small external display that displays all the necessary information.
Inside the RAZR V4, there is nothing to brag about: an outdated Snapdragon 710 with an Adreno 616 graphics accelerator, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of main memory. There is no memory card support, but there is Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC.
Microsoft Surface Duo
The Microsoft Surface Duo smartphone is expected to start selling by the end of 2020. It will be a device with two 5.6-inch displays that fold into one 8.3-inch. The novelty will run under the operating system Android.
The Surface Duo is known to be based on the Snapdragon 855 chipset and be only 4.8mm thin. According to some insiders, the smartphone will have 6GB of RAM and the main storage capacity can range from 64GB to 256GB without expandability.
